The legendary New Ohio Theatre is a downtown, artist-run organization with a twenty-plus history in producing bold, inventive, groundbreaking theater. Moving from one historical space in SoHo to another in the West Village presented challenges in bringing in new audiences as well as re-establishing their brand and voice.
Working closely with Artistic Director Robert Lyons and Producing Director Marc Weitz, my challenge was to establish and refresh their brand identity while keeping with the familiarity of a company that audiences have followed for decades. This season brochure is a dip into creating a robust and sophisticated visual language, placing the theater geographically, and boosting the marketing of the independent theater companies and programs the New Ohio presents. The logo has received a subtle makeover and the campaign theme plays with the NEW that already exists within the company name. The goal was to make it pocket sized yet hefty enough that it could be handed out as a glorified business card, but not thrown out so easily.
